Indian Head man faces armed robbery, assault charges
On March 4, a woman reported to the La Plata Police Department that she had been stabbed in her right forearm by a man she believed was homeless and was trying to help.
According to court documents filed by Cpl. Brendan Smith of the La Plata Police Department, the perpetrator also destroyed the woman’s cellphone and broke into property on Port Tobacco Road in La Plata.
The woman told Smith she first encountered the man outside the La Plata Walmart.
The suspect was identified as Tyre Isaiah Bonds-Bishop, 21, of Indian Head. He is charged with armed robbery, second-degree assault, first-degree assault, fourth-degree burglary, theft, malicious destruction of property, and obstructing and hindering.
Bonds-Bishop was ordered held without bond. A district court hearing on the charges he is facing is scheduled for April 3.
Hughesville woman charged with assault
On March 3, Officer K. Dunn of the Charles County Sheriffs Office investigated an alleged incident at a Hughesville residence.
According to court papers, the defendant, identified as Keralin Grace Kreunen, 20, of Hughesville, was wielding a knife during a verbal argument with a 53-year-old man. Kreunen allegedly attempted to stab the man, Dunn reported.
According to Dunn, a 10-inch knife was recovered from the home.
Kreunen was charged with first-degree assault and second-degree assault.
On March 5, Kreunen was released on her own recognizance. A district court hearing on the charges is scheduled for April 3.
D.C. woman faces criminal and traffic charges
On March 4, Officer R. Vancleaf of the La Plata Police Department was on patrol in the area of Route 301 and Hawthorne Road when a Mazda with Washington, D.C., tags was observed. A tag check revealed the vehicle’s registration had expired in 2022.
Vancleaf then conducted a traffic stop. The driver of the Mazda was identified as Destiny Andrea Grier Lewis, 31, of Washington, D.C.
“Lewis was unhappy I stopped her,” Vancleaf wrote in charging papers.
Lewis began yelling at another officer who had arrived at the scene.
“Lewis then fled my traffic stop and continued to drive northbound” on Route 301, “cutting vehicles off in an attempt to flee and elude police,” Vancleaf wrote.
A Charles County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle stopped the Mazda on Heritage Green Parkway, with deputies drawing their guns and ordering the defendant to exit the vehicle.
According to Vancleaf, Lewis refused to exit the Mazda. Spike strips were placed in front and at the rear of the Mazda and an officer deployed a window breaking tool.
Vancleaf noted that during the incident traffic “came to a complete stop” as motorists watched the encounter.
Lewis was charged with disturbing the peace, disorderly conduct, failure to obey a lawful order, resisting arrest and reckless endangerment.
She was cited for reckless driving, negligent driving, attempting to elude police, making unsafe lane charges and operating an unregistered vehicle.
The following day Lewis was released after posting $3,000 bond. A district court hearing on the charges is scheduled for April 21.
Man arrested on fugitive warrant from Pennsylvania
On March 4, a 44-year-old Lexington Park man was arrested twice by St. Mary’s sheriff’s office deputies.
Deputy M. Chase-Johnson arrested Edward Raleigh Curley on fugitive charges. Curley was wanted in Somerset, Pa., where he was charged with theft by the unlawful taking of movable property.
Curley voluntarily waived extradition. A district court hearing on Curley’s fugitive charge is scheduled for March 16.
Deputy Travis Wimberly arrested Curley for possession of suspected crack cocaine, possession of suspected drug paraphernalia — in this case a glass smoking device, plus altering physical evidence in a crime procedure.
On March 5, Curley was ordered held without bond. A district court hearing for Curley’s drug charges is scheduled for April 21.
Man charged with assaulting three
On March 2, Deputy Michael Myers of the St. Mary’s sheriff’s office investigated an incident during which a 33-year-old Lexington Park man allegedly assaulted three people at a residence.
Myers wrote in court papers that the defendant, Brigado A. Lopez-Garcia, was reportedly unhappy when he returned home and his dinner wasn’t ready. Lopez-Garcia allegedly punched one of the women. Another woman brandished a box cutter in an attempt to stop the defendant. A man at the residence attempted to stop the altercation and was allegedly strangled by Lopez-Garcia.
Lopez-Garcia was arrested and charged with one count of first-degree assault and three counts of second-degree assault.
On March 3 Lopez-Garcia was released on his own recognizance. A district court hearing on the charges is scheduled for March 30.
Mechanicsville man facing drug and traffic charges
On March 2, Trooper Allison Oyler of the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack conducted a traffic stop on a 2018 Ford on Route 235 at Loveville Road in Mechanicsville. According to a police report, the motorist, identified as Jason Michael Wood, 37, of Mechanicsville, was administered field sobriety tests by the trooper. Wood’s test results were deemed unsatisfactory and he was arrested.
A subsequent search of the vehicle and defendant yielded quantities of suspected Percocet, suspected crack cocaine and suspected drug paraphernalia.
Wood was charged with two counts each of drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. Additionally, Wood was cited for driving while impaired by drugs, reckless driving, negligent driving, violation of a license restriction, driving without a license, driving on a revoked license and speeding.
On March 3, Wood was released after posting $2,000 bond. A district court hearing on the charges Wood is facing is scheduled for April 13.
Teen charged in school incident
On March 4, Cpl. Jaime Davis of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, who serves as the school resource officer at Leonardtown High, filed charges against an 18-year-old California man stemming from an alleged incident that occurred at the school Feb. 26.
According to court documents, Davis stated the defendant, Josiah James Thomas Sobola, waited outside the school for a male student to exit the building. Sobola then allegedly punched the student in “the face and body.”
Davis said two teachers had tried to stop the altercation, which was captured by a surveillance camera.
Sobola was charged with second-degree assault and disturbing the operation of school. A court summons was issued for Sobola. A district court hearing on the charges is scheduled for April 17.

North Beach man charged with assault
On Feb. 28, Deputy Kyle Grabill of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the North Beach area to investigate a late night 911 hangup. Deputies arrived at a residence and detained a 42-year-old man.
Grabill interviewed a 32-year-old female, who alleged she was assaulted by the detained man, identified as John Daniel O’Conner of North Beach.
“The house was torn up and a mess,” Grabill wrote in court documents.
Grabill said that according to the woman, the incident began as a verbal argument and turned physical, with O’Conner allegedly strangling his accuser.
Grabill said there were “visible signs” of the alleged attack on the woman’s neck.
O’Conner was charged with first-degree assault and second-degree assault. He posted $5,000 bond March 1 and was released.
A district court hearing on the charges O’Conner is facing is scheduled for April 1.
Prince Frederick man charged with weapons violations
On March 1, Deputy Ryan Campbell of the Calvert sheriff’s office responded to a Prince Frederick home to investigate the alleged violation of a protective order.
A woman at the residence said Chicago Alexander Garner, 31, of Prince Frederick had been ordered by the court not to threaten, abuse or contact her and not to enter her home.
Deputies located Garner at the residence and removed him from the home.
A search of Garner resulted in the location of a loaded handgun in the defendant’s jacket pocket. Garner has been prohibited four times from possessing a handgun.
Garner was charged with having a loaded handgun on his person, having a handgun in possession, firearm possession with a felony conviction, illegal possession of a gun, illegal possession of ammunition and violation of a protective order.
Garner is being held without bond. A district court hearing on the charges he is facing is scheduled for April 1.
Virginia fugitive nabbed
On March 4 Deputy Kyle Grabill of the Calvert sheriff’s office arrested Raphael Tene, 56, of Upper Marlboro on a fugitive warrant. Tene is wanted in Fairfax County, Va., for obtaining money under false pretenses and larceny over $1,000.
After initially being held without bond on March 5, Tene was released on his own recognizance. He declined to waive extradition.
A fugitive hearing in district court for Tene is scheduled for March 13.
Couple busted on drug charges
On March 3, Calvert sheriff’s office deputies with the agency’s drug enforcement unit and special operations team, along with Maryland State Police troopers and personnel from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, conducted a search warrant at a North Beach residence.
According to court documents filed by Detective Ian Tunnell of the Calvert sheriff’s office, during the winter authorities learned from a “confidential informant” that a package containing 30 grams of suspected methamphetamine had been sent from Arizona and addressed to Julia Lynn Bennett, 31, of North Beach.
Tunnell stated the informant had told investigators Bennett and a man identified as Tyson Wayne Black, 37, also of North Beach, had been selling drugs.
Authorities obtained a federal search warrant to search the package and a local bench warrant to search Bennett and Black’s home. Both were taken into custody without incident.
Black was charged with importing drugs into the state, conspiracy to import drugs into the state, possession with intent to distribute drugs, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute drugs. He is being held without bond.
A district court hearing on the charges Black is facing is scheduled for March 30.
Bennett was charged with possession with intent to distribute narcotics, conspiracy to possess narcotics with the intent to distribute, importing drugs into the state, conspiracy to import drugs into the state plus two counts of drug possession.
After initially being released on her own recognizance, on March 5 Bennett was ordered held without bond. A district court hearing on the charges Bennett is facing is scheduled for April 3.
