On Saturday at the Talbot County Ice Rink in Easton, "Light the Lamp for Liam" will celebrate the memory of local youth hockey player Liam, who passed away in February.
SUBMITTED PHOTOEASTON — On Saturday at the Talbot County Ice Rink in Easton, "Light the Lamp for Liam" will celebrate the memory of local youth hockey player Liam, who passed away in February.
The hockey-centered event will honor Liam by raising funds to provide financial assistance to young athletes who want to play hockey but cannot afford it.
The featured hockey games, involving veteran and first responder teams, are:
Tickets to the event are $10. Admission is free for kids under 13.
The family-friendly event will feature a silent auction with dozens of exciting items across all price ranges, including great restaurants in Annapolis, as well as a basket auction. Food will be available for purchase at the event from food trucks and local restaurants.
There also will be kid-centered activities, including a game between the main hockey games.
The event will be attended by representatives from social service organizations and nonprofits that will be sharing resources on mental health and crisis intervention, including: Talbot First, Irreverent Warriors, AAPD Crisis Intervention, Harbor of Grace and For All Seasons.

The Talbot County Ice Rink is located inside the Talbot County Community Center at 10028 Ocean Gateway in Easton.
The event is a collaboration involving Delmarva Warriors, Annapolis Bravest Hockey, Anne Arundel Police Department, Heroes Pub in Annapolis, Talbot County Ice Rink and Liam’s parents.
A bit about Liam: Liam was a junior at Queen Anne’s County High School, where he was a member of the football and ice hockey teams. He was also a member of the Easton Icehawks from the time he was a Mite up through this season as an 18U player. He was a coachable and devoted teammate, with sportsmanship at the forefront of everything he did. Growing up on the Eastern Shore, Liam also enjoyed hiking, the outdoors and fishing. He loved music and movies, and he was a devoted fan of the Detroit Lions, Detroit Red Wings and Navy Football. In addition to being a student athlete, Liam was a junior member of Goodwill Volunteer Fire Company in Centreville. He was enrolled in the VoTech program through the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute. From a young age, Liam loved history, particularly all things military and World War II. Fascinated by science and space, he was a two-time graduate of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama.
