Chopticon 31, Thomas Stone 23
Senior Vontae Hoffert scored three touchdowns, senior quarterback A.J. Hunt tossed for three scores as the Braves jumped out to a big lead and held on to defeat the visiting Cougars on Friday night.
Chopticon (3-0 overall) led 18-0, 25-7 and 31-7, but Stone scored twice — a 70-yard run by senior running back Hopeton Mair and a 73-yard run by senior Delonta Nunnally, and 2-point conversion runs by Mair and Nunnally, respectively — within a span of 3 minutes 25 seconds midway through the final quarter.
Stone (2-1) had three more possessions to close out the game, including one at the Braves' 19-yard line, but twice turned the ball over on downs while another drive ended on an interception by Hoffert.
Chopticon jumped out to a big lead thanks in large part to Hoffert, who scored two touchdowns in an eight-second span. After returning a punt 84 yards for a score late in the first quarter, the Braves recovered an onside kick and Hoffert hauled in a 52-yard scoring strike from Hunt on the last play of the period.
Hoffert's 25-yard touchdown catch made it 18-0, but Stone got on the board 58 seconds later on junior quarterback Ronnie Carter's 25-yard strike to Nunnally with 19 seconds left in the half.
Chopticon increased its lead to 31-7 on a 1-yard plunge by senior running back Kharim Mitchell and a 48-yard touchdown grab by senior wide receiver Nick Snyder.
McDonough 28, Leonardtown 21
After being shut out last week by St. Charles, the visiting Rams went to 2-1 overall with Friday night’s victory over the Raiders.
Leonardtown (0-3) led 7-6 at halftime, but McDonough came back in the second half to pull out the win.
The Raiders scored their first points of the season after getting shut out in back-to-back games to Lackey and Calvert to start the campaign.

Northern 31, La Plata 22
For the second consecutive week, the visiting Warriors spotted an unbeaten team a commanding lead through the first three quarters and then made things interesting in the fourth quarter before eventually succumbing to the Patriots on Northern’s Homecoming night Friday.
Northern (3-0) scored on its first possession of the game when senior quarterback Reese Crounse plowed forward from two yards out and later added to its lead when Crounse twice connected with senior wide receiver Conlon Schlaeppi for touchdown strikes. Their second connection occurred with just 11 seconds left in the first half and lifted the Patriots to a 23-8 lead at the break.
Northern promptly struck first in the third quarter, capitalizing on an interception by sophomore Rex Fleming when Crounse hit senior wide receiver Daniel Horak on a 4-yard toss to extend the lead to 31-8.
La Plata (1-2) was hardly about to roll over quietly. One week after spotting Chopticon a 28-0 lead through the first three quarters and eventually falling 42-20, the Warriors gradually chipped away at the Patriots’ advantage.
Senior quarterback Jordan Sinclair scored from three yards out on a keeper and later connected with sophomore wide receiver DeShawn Clinton on a 22-yard scoring strike to trim the deficit to 31-22 with 6:13 remaining.
But after Schlaeppi recovered a La Plata onsides kick near midfield, Northern devoured all but 22 seconds on a drive in which Crounse and senior running back Xavier Harris did most of the damage on the ground.
Sinclair had scored the Warriors' lone touchdown of the first half on a quarterback draw and had a 74-yard scoring run negated by a holding penalty.
Calvert 14, Huntingtown 0
Senior running back Gavin Lusby rushed for two touchdowns to account for all the scoring in the Cavaliers' win at county rival Huntingtown on Friday night.
In a defensive battle that featured less than 250 yards of total offense, Calvert (2-1) capitalized on a couple of turnovers to earn its second win of the year.
After recovering a fumble on the Huntingtown 24-yard line late in the second quarter, Lusby capped a 6-play drive with a 1-yard plunge into the end zone with just 41 seconds left in the half.
Early in the third quarter, junior Jake Bowen intercepted a pass and returned it to the Huntingtown 8. Lusby then carried the ball in for the game's final score on the ensuing play with 9:27 remaining in the third.
Huntingtown falls to 1-2.
Westlake 34, St. Charles 7
The visiting Wolverines bounced back from being shutout last week by putting forth a stonewall of their own in Friday night’s win, holding the Spartans’ offense scoreless on their home turf.
Westlake (2-1) didn’t score its first offensive touchdown until the second half, but exploded for a pair of touchdowns in each of the final two quarters.
The lone touchdown for St. Charles (1-2) came on a kickoff return by sophomore Klayton Batten in the third quarter. The Spartans offense managed just four first downs and lost yardage on both first-half drives starting in Westlake territory.
Three different Westlake players rushed for touchdowns with quarterback Jalon Spencer accounting for a score on the ground and through the air.
The junior signal caller scored the Wolverines’ second touchdown on a 5-yard keeper in the third quarter and lofted a 24-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Caleb Caine in the fourth.
The passing strike followed Batten’s long score and dissolved any momentum held by the home squad.
St. Mary’s Ryken 35, Paul VI (Va.) 0
The visiting Knights shut out their second straight opponent and went to 4-0 on the season with Friday night’s win in Fairfax, Va.
St. Mary’s Ryken got out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter as senior quarterback Kristian Marks tossed three touchdown passes. The first two went to sophomore wide receiver Colyn Webster from 25 and 7 yards out after fumble recoveries and the third was an 88-yard pass to freshman wide receiver Will Johnson on the opening play of that drive.
Marks found junior wide receiver Daniel Keith from seven yards out to make it 27-0 with 3:17 left in the second quarter.
The Knights added a final touchdown in the third on a run by senior running back Calvin Bell.
North Point 40, Patuxent 3
The Eagles were strong in all three phases as they powered past the visiting Panthers to stay undefeated on Friday night.
North Point (3-0), which scored 26 first-half points, led 33-0 early in the third quarter before allowing the first points of the season on Patuxent junior kicker Hunter Dixon's 30-yard field goal.
The Eagles defense was stifling once again, giving up just 161 yards of total offense, including just six yards rushing on 28 carries, and has yet to allow an offensive touchdown this season.
North Point, which had 200 yards on a 26 carries, took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter as senior running back Omar Poole (8 carries, 80 yards) scored on a 1-yard touchdown run.
In the second quarter, junior Malik Lawrence broke on a 60-yard punt return and Patuxent recovered a bad snap over the punter's head in the end zone for a safety.
After Evan Patterson's 30-yard field goal, the Eagles capped off the first half as senior Jemichael Jones threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Micah Campbell.
In the third, senior Chelen Garnes had a 25-yard touchdown run and junior backup quarterback Asa Williams had a 4-yard touchdown run in the fourth.
Patuxent (0-3) was led by senior quarterback Matthew Allen, who completed 7 of 19 passes for 155 yards.
The Panthers offense drove inside the Eagles 20-yard line twice in the game.
Lackey 46, Great Mills 2
The visiting Chargers are 3-0 for the first time since 2004 with Friday night’s win over the Hornets.
Lackey led 9-0 after a quarter as the defense scored a safety and junior Jonathan Bridgett returned an interception for a touchdown.
The Chargers extended the lead to 31-0 by halftime as junior quarterback Robert Middleton had scoring runs of 13 and 48 yards and he tossed a 13-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Justin McIntyre. Middleton scored on a two-point conversion in the second quarter as well.
Great Mills (0-3) got on the board just before the midway point of the third quarter on a safety. Lackey answered later in the quarter with a Middleton 54-yard touchdown run and the defense picked up its second safety of the night.
Senior Wesley Johnson’s 39-yard touchdown run early in the fourth capped the scoring.
