Great Mills 16, St. Charles 6
The Hornets won for the second time in three weeks after posting a homecoming victory over the visiting Spartans in a Southern Maryland Athletic Conference Potomac Division contest on Friday evening.
The game was scoreless until the third quarter when St. Charles senior quarterback Kameron Blount ran 14 yards for a touchdown. Junior kicker AJ White’s extra point failed and the score stood at 6-0 Spartans.
Senior running back Martrel Mason answered moments later with the Hornets’ first touchdown of the night on a 78-yard run. Junior quarterback Terrell London then found senior wide receiver Jamari Jordan in the end zone for the 2-point conversion to give the Hornets the lead 8-6 with 8 minutes 29 seconds to go in the third quarter.
Great Mills (2-6, 2-2 SMAC Potomac) added to its lead when London found senior tight end Troy Herbert with a 27-yard touchdown pass with 3:19 left in the third. The 2-point conversion was good with London hitting Herbert again with a pass in the end zone, giving the Hornets a 16-6 lead.
Neither team scored in the fourth quarter and the Hornets picked up the win.
The Spartans (6-2, 2-2) fell for the second straight week.
Westlake 29, Patuxent 14
The Wolverines held their homecoming game at North Point High School due to a lighting issue on their own field and came through with the win against the Panthers in a SMAC Chesapeake Division contest on Friday evening after overcoming a slow start.
Patuxent (2-6, 2-2 SMAC Chesapeake) got on the board early after sophomore Dajerion Brooks took the opening kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown to put the Panthers ahead 7-0 after senior kicker Hunter Dixon's extra point was good.
Two plays into the second quarter, Westlake senior quarterback Jalon Spencer had a 2-yard touchdown run that tied the game at 7 after senior kicker Ryan Lloyd's extra point was good.
The game appeared to be headed into the half tied, but Patuxent junior quarterback Dylan Lovett had his pass intercepted on a third down throw by Westlake senior Devin Williams who returned the interception 29 yards for a touchdown.
The Wolverines (6-2, 4-0) led 13-7 as the second half started and had the ball deep in Panthers territory.
After a fumbled snap, Westlake’s drive stalled and Spencer threw an interception on a failed fourth down play. The interception pinned Patuxent deep in its own territory, starting the drive at its own 1-yard line.
Two plays later, Panthers junior running back Cameron Marshall was tackled in the end zone for a Westlake safety to extend its lead to 15-7.
Then late in the third quarter, the Wolverines added another rushing touchdown, this time by senior LaQuay Washington from six yards out on a fourth-and-1 play.
Heading into the final quarter, Westlake led 22-7. Both teams had drive stalls with punts before each time added another touchdown to their totals in the final two minutes of regulation.
Westlake scored its third rushing touchdown of the night when senior running back Cheyswan Coates punched it in for six with 1:45 remaining to play.
Junior running back Dajore Brooks had the Panthers’ only offensive score of the game on a 61-yard rushing touchdown with 29 seconds left.
Lackey 43, Thomas Stone 9

The visiting Chargers virtually ended any doubt about the outcome in the second quarter and cruised to the victory over the Cougars in a SMAC Chesapeake Division contest on Friday evening.
Lackey (5-3, 2-2 SMAC Chesapeake) stayed in the driver's seat for another berth in the Class 1A South Region playoffs when it broke open a close contest by scoring three touchdowns in the second quarter and owned a 28-0 lead at the intermission.
Chargers senior quarterback Robert Middleton ran for two scores in the first half and seniors Jayson Wilmer and D'Anthony Washington scored on runs of 65 and 5 yards, respectively.
Stone (4-4, 2-2) got a reprieve from the onslaught early in the third quarter. Lackey senior Linn Jordan fumbled the second half kickoff and junior teammate Jaquan Cobey recovered the bouncing ball in the end zone for a Cougars safety. Then on its ensuing possession, on a drive kept alive by a pass interference penalty, Stone narrowed the gap to 28-9 when senior running back Trent Gaskins scored from 27 yards out on a sweep.
With just over 1 minute left in the third quarter, Stone junior running back Kejuan Shelby was tackled for a 2-yard loss on fourth down at his own 15 and Lackey needed only two plays to put the game away.
Wilmer ran for six yards on first down, then Washington plowed forward from nine yards to give the Chargers a 35-9 lead heading into the final frame.
Washington added his third rushing touchdown of the night from four yards out with just over 10 minutes remaining and Wilmer added the 2-point conversion to account for the last scoring plays of the contest.
Huntingtown 38, Chopticon 0
The visiting Hurricanes shut out a St. Mary’s County opponent for the second straight week in defeating the Braves in a SMAC Potomac Division contest on Friday evening.
Huntingtown (7-1, 3-1 SMAC Potomac), which led 21-0 at halftime, has allowed just seven points in three games since losing its first game of the year to North Point on Sept. 28.
Chopticon (2-6, 1-3) lost for the third straight week.
North Point 41, Leonardtown 0
The visiting Eagles continued their unbeaten season with a win over the Raiders in a SMAC Potomac Division contest on Friday evening.
North Point (8-0, 5-0 SMAC Potomac) scored 41 points for a second straight week.
Leonardtown (0-8, 0-5) was shut out for the fourth time in five weeks.
Calvert 63, La Plata 20
Senior running back Dre Mackall scored six rushing touchdowns in three quarters as the visiting Cavaliers routed the Warriors in a SMAC Chesapeake Division contest on Friday evening.
Mackall scored three touchdowns in the first quarter, the third being a 60-yard run, and Calvert (6-2, 5-0 SMAC Chesapeake) led 21-7 after one quarter.
Mackall added two more scores in the second quarter and the Cavaliers led 42-20 at halftime.
The senior had his sixth and final touchdown of the night in the first two minutes of the third quarter, a 50-yard run.
Senior running back Mikka Harvey ran in a touchdown and Calvert led 56-20 after three quarters. Senior running back TJ Prather capped the scoring with a rushing touchdown in the fourth.
La Plata (1-7, 0-5) got to within 28-20 with three minutes left in the second quarter but no closer.
Northern 47, McDonough 0
Senior running back R.J. Dennis rushed for close to 100 yards and two touchdowns to pace a Patriots' attack that accumulated roughly 300 yards of offense and boasted five different players reaching the end zone in the win over the visiting Rams in a SMAC nondivision contest on Friday evening.
After receiving the opening kickoff, Northern (6-2 overall) drove straight down the field and scored on Dennis' 3-yard run.
That was the first of three Northern rushing touchdowns in the opening half, with juniors Keith Parks and J.P. Gross each scoring on the ground to increase the Patriots' lead to 20-0 by the midpoint of the second quarter.
Late in the half, freshman quarterback Zach Crounse hooked up with senior Luke Wooldridge on a 4-yard touchdown pass to push the halftime lead to 27-0.
Dennis scored on a 5-yard run in the third quarter, while senior Austin Hood and Gross added fourth-quarter rushing scores, the latter coming on a 52-yard run in the game's final two minutes.
The win was the second straight for Northern, while McDonough (1-7) dropped its fourth in a row.
St. Mary's Ryken off this week
The Knights did not play this week and put their seven-game winning streak on the line in a home Washington Catholic Athletic Conference contest versus Paul VI (Va.) at 7 p.m. Friday.
After pulling out a 34-33 victory versus Bullis of Montgomery County on Sept. 28, St. Mary’s Ryken (7-1, 3-0 WCAC) outscored their next two opponents — O’Connell and Ireton, both of Virginia — by a combined 103-6.
