Northern 36, Chopticon 33
The Patriots took the drivers seat in the race for the top seed in the Class 3A South Region, coming back from a 21-6 halftime deficit to earn a heart stopping win over the visiting Braves in a Southern Maryland Athletic Conference Potomac Division contest on Friday night.
Northern (4-0, 1-0 SMAC Potomac) scored the first 23 points of the second half to lead 29-21 with 10 minutes 36 seconds left to play after senior running back Xavier Harris' 43-yard touchdown run. But Chopticon (3-1, 0-1) rebounded, scoring on a pair of Austin Gregory touchdown runs to surge back to a 33-29 lead.
The Patriots took over at their own 25 after Gregory's go-ahead score and marched deep into Braves territory, converting on a fourth down along the way. Finally, Harris caught a 9-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Reese Crounse to put the hosts ahead to stay.
Harris rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns in addition to a receiving score. Crounse completed 18 passes for 265 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Gregory, a senior running back, led all rushers with 173 yards and three rushing touchdowns.
St. Charles 19, Huntingtown 7
The Spartans bounced back from 27-point loss to Westlake in Week 3 with Friday night’s win over the visiting Hurricanes in a SMAC Potomac Division contest.
The game was tied at 7 at halftime and St. Charles (2-2, 1-0 SMAC Potomac) pulled away in the second half for the win. Huntingtown fell to 1-3, 0-1.

Thomas Stone 23, Patuxent 10
The visiting Cougars rebounded from a Week 3 loss at Chopticon with Friday night’s win over the Panthers in a SMAC Chesapeake Division contest.
The game was tied at 10 with three minutes left in the third quarter, then Stone (3-1, 1-0 SMAC Chesapeake) pulled ahead 17-10 with 1 minute to go in the period and added an insurance score with three minutes left in the fourth. Patuxent fell to 0-4, 0-1.

Westlake 14, Calvert 0
The Wolverines locked down the visiting Cavaliers in a SMAC Chesapeake Division contest on Friday night, shutting out their opponents in an impressive defensive display.
Calvert's opening drive put its offense in prime position inside the Westlake 5-yard line after a long run by senior running back Gavin Lusby, but the Wolverines (3-1, 1-0 SMAC Chesapeake) stood tall and forced a fumble on a fourth-down try. The Cavaliers would not threaten to score for the rest of the game.
Westlake's normally run-heavy offense was ignited by a trio of pass plays, as quarterback Jalon Spencer threw for a touchdown in the second quarter and extended a drive with his arm in the third quarter that ended with a 12-yard scamper by senior running back Jordan Brumfield.
That second scoring drive broke the spirit of a Cavaliers team that had little momentum throughout the game but came narrowly close to stopping the Wolverines and retaining possession with a one-score deficit.
Calvert (2-2, 0-1) forced the home team into a pair of third-and-long situations, only to watch Spencer roll out and find senior tight end Kobe Bins and then Qwashawn Mayes for drive-extending completions.
Calvert managed just two first downs in each of the last two quarters. The lone bright spot for the Cavaliers was junior running back Leon Campbell, who rushed for 45 yards on eight carries despite not receiving a touch until the second half.
North Point 53, Great Mills 20
The visiting Eagles went to 4-0 on the season with Friday night’s win over the Hornets in a SMAC Potomac Division contest.
North Point (4-0, 1-0 SMAC Potomac) led 44-14 at halftime en route to the victory. Great Mills fell to 0-4, 0-1.

Lackey 35, McDonough 0
The visiting Chargers scored on each of its first three possessions in the first quarter and cruised to Friday night’s win over the Rams in a SMAC Chesapeake Division contest.
Lackey (4-0, 1-0 SMAC Chesapeake) got a touchdown run of 34 yards from junior DeAnthony Washington and touchdown runs of 77 and 38 yards, respectively, from junior quarterback Robert Middleton in the first quarter for a 21-0 lead.
The Chargers added another touchdown late in the first half on a 12-yard run by junior Jayson Wilmer and they pushed the lead to 35-0 when Middleton scored again from four yards out with 8:30 remaining in the third quarter. The last 20-plus minutes were played under the running clock.
McDonough (2-2, 0-1) threatened to score late in the first quarter and in the final five minutes of the game, but each time got turned away.
In the first half, a bad snap forced quarterback Marquez Smith to fall on the ball following a 12-yard loss. Then in the fourth quarter, Smith attempted to score on a keeper off the right edge but fumbled the ball into and out of the end zone for a touchback.
La Plata 54, Leonardtown 6
Senior quarterback Jordan Sinclair accounted for five touchdowns as the Warriors picked up a convincing homecoming win over the Raiders in a SMAC nondivision contest on Friday night.
Sinclair passed for three scores – 26 yards to sophomore wide receiver Stephen Cobb and 10 yards each to sophomore wide receiver Nico Stout and freshman wide receiver Da'Mani Brown – and ran for two others to power the Warriors' offense. Sinclair also passed for three 2-point conversions.
Senior running back Peytyn Gray rushed for two scores, a 21-yard jaunt in the second quarter and a 40-yard run in the third quarter for the final La Plata points of the night.
Stout also ran in a pair of 2-point conversions.
The homecoming win was the first for the Warriors in 17 years.
La Plata (2-2 overall) opened the scoring on Sinclair's 9-yard run to cap off an 11-play, 75-yard game-opening drive, which consumed 6 minutes 50 seconds.
But just 12 seconds later, Leonardtown quarterback Spencer Waugh found senior James Blackwell Jr. down the left sideline for an 80-yard touchdown.
The Warriors then scored touchdowns on six of its first seven possessions to pull away.
La Plata also forced three turnovers as sophomore Taylun Sanders and senior Andy Chen each recovered fumbles and sophomore Christian Pierce intercepted Waugh on the final play of the game.
The Raiders (0-4) have scored just 27 points this season.
St. Mary’s Ryken 48, Archbishop Carroll (D.C.) 12
The visiting Knights have their first 5-0 start to a season in program history with their victory on Saturday afternoon in Washington, D.C.

Senior running back Calvin Bell scored on a 4-yard touchdown run halfway through the first quarter to put St. Mary’s Ryken up 7-0. The Knights then put up 34 points in the second quarter to pull away.
Senior quarterback Kristian Marks threw two touchdown passes in the quarter, 8 yards to junior wide receiver Daniel Keith just over a minute into the period and a 65-yard toss to sophomore wide receiver Colyn Webster with just over a minute to play until halftime.
The Knights also had two defensive touchdowns on a 40-yard fumble return by junior AJ Wilson after Keith’s score and a 26-yard interception return for a touchdown by senior defensive back Jalin Phillips to end the first half which gave the visitors a 41-6 lead.
After Wilson’s score, Carroll got on the board, which was then answered by a 9-yard touchdown run from St. Mary’s Ryken junior running back Jonathan Wynn. The Carroll score was the first points allowed by the Knights defense in over 113 minutes.
St. Mary’s Ryken freshman defensive back Will Johnson returned an interception 34 yards for a touchdown to end the third quarter and Carroll had the only points of the fourth to finish the scoring.
