Ryan McMahon pulled New York even with a three-run shot off Dylan Cease following two walks in the fourth. Will Warren went five innings for the win, and the Yankees got excellent relief work from a bullpen that’s been shaky of late. Tim Hill, Jake Bird and Brent Headrick combined to allow just one hit over three scoreless innings. Camilo Doval allowed a sacrifice fly by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the ninth before earning his second save with the Yankees and first this season.
Chase Burns took a 108.8 mph line drive from Bryce Harper and stays composed. He fielded the ball and got Harper out at first, ending the sixth inning. Burns headed to the clubhouse for treatment on a hit near the upper groin. Reds manager Terry Francona joked about Burns not wearing a cup. Burns, the second overall pick in the 2024 draft, had nine strikeouts over six innings. He lowered his ERA to 1.83 in the Reds' 4-1 win over the Phillies on Tuesday. Burns has become a key player for the Reds, boasting a 0.72 ERA in May.

Isaac Paredes hit a two-run homer in the first inning, Jason Alexander scattered four hits over six scoreless innings and the Houston Astros beat the Minnesota Twins 2-1. Jeremy Peña singled off Zebby Matthews (1-1) to open the game and Paredes followed with his fifth home run — on a 3-2 pitch — for a 2-0 lead. Alexander (1-0) walked one and struck out four after allowing 10 runs in 6 1/3 innings in his first two outings this season. Matthews worked six innings and never gave up a run after the first in his second start this season. He allowed six hits, didn’t walk a batter and struck out six.
