Nick Kurtz had three hits and five RBIs, Brent Rooker and Zack Gelof homered and drove in three runs apiece as the Athletics beat the Los Angeles Angels 14-6. The Athletics scored 12 of their runs with two outs. Reliever Justin Sterner (2-3) escaped a first-and-third, two-out jam in the fourth and earned the win for the AL West-leading A’s, who snapped a three-game skid. Mike Trout hit his 12th homer of the season, a solo shot, and finished with two RBIs for the last-place Angels, who have lost 22 of 28 games since an 11-10 start.
Andrew Benintendi drove in the go-ahead run with an infield single in the ninth inning, four Chicago pitchers held Seattle to one hit, and the White Sox beat the Mariners 2-1. Chase Meidroth tied the game with a single to right field off Mariners closer Andrés Muñoz, and Benintendi put the White Sox ahead with a single that ricocheted off the glove of Mariners first baseman Josh Naylor to score Manuel Vargas from third. Chicago struggled to get things going early against Mariners starter Bryce Miller, who threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts.

Alex Call slid home with the tiebreaking run on Andy Pages’ sacrifice fly off Mason Miller in the ninth inning, and the Los Angeles Dodgers hung on for a 5-4 victory over the San Diego Padres. Freddie Freeman hit two homers for the Dodgers before they manufactured an unearned run off Miller, the Padres’ vaunted closer who had held opponents scoreless in 20 of his first 21 appearances this season. Manny Machado and Miguel Andujar hit early two-run homers for the Padres, whose four-game winning streak ended.

Ketel Marte hit a game-winning three-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks over the San Francisco Giants 5-3. The D-backs trailed 3-1 going into the ninth, but Adrian Del Castillo hit a two-out RBI single that cut the deficit to 3-2. Ryan Waldschmidt then reached on catcher’s interference. Giants manager Tony Vitello replaced Caleb Kilian with lefty Matt Gage, but then Marte, a three-time All-Star, turned on the second pitch he saw and launched it over the left field fence, tossing his bat while turning to look back at the D-backs dugout before rounding the bases.
